Everton news: Pundit fumes at Richarlison after source reveals exit ‘plot’ – ‘it’s not right’

Noel Whelan has suggested Richarlison is not “fighting for the cause” at Everton as he plots a summer exit.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, slammed the 24-year-old – insisting he “wouldn’t want to be in the trenches with him”.

An Everton source told this site yesterday (17 April) that Richarlison has told his agent to find him a new club this summer.

The 34-time Brazil international has just over two years remaining on his Goodison Park contract.

Man United are one of the sides credited with an interest in the former Watford man, who cost the Toffees a reported £50million in 2018.

Whelan conceded Richarlison is likely to see his wish granted – but warned Everton will hold out for a big-money fee.

“That doesn’t surprise me at all,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“I’ve said all along that I wouldn’t want to be in the trenches with him, and that just proves my point.

“You just knew all along, once Everton got into this struggle, he would be sitting at home and plotting his way out.

“That’s not commitment to me. That’s not fighting for the cause. It’s not right.

“Will he get the move? Of course he will. He’s Brazil’s number nine, and he had Barcelona at his door only a couple of years ago.

“I’m sure he’ll get the move he wants, but it won’t be cheap. Everton will hold on for what they think he’s worth – provided they’re still in the Premier League.”

Everton reportedly rebuffed an £85million approach from Barcelona for Richarlison in January 2020.

The 24-year-old has netted just six Premier League goals this term.

In other news, Kieran Maguire claims group “loathed” by fans can help Everton close “£100m” gap on the elite.
