Everton news: Pundit issues ‘nasty’ verdict as Idrissa Gueye footage analysed
Paul Robinson has claimed Aleksandar Mitrovic’s challenge on Everton midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye was “nasty” but looked worse than it was in slow motion.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said “there was not enough evidence for VAR to overturn the on-field decision.”
As shown on Sky Sports (31 October), Mitrovic was shown a yellow card for a late tackle on Gueye in Fulham’s goalless draw with Everton on Saturday.
Referee John Brooks had a good view of the incident and did not deem it worthy of a sending off.
VAR official Darren England chose not to intervene.
Speaking to Sky Sports post-match (29 October), Toffees boss Frank Lampard slammed the decision which he felt was a blatant red card.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the controversial incident at Craven Cottage, Robinson said: “Listen, if it was given as a red card it would not have been overturned.
“But the same applies for the yellow card. It was a subjective decision that was down to interpretation.

“There was not enough evidence for VAR to overturn the referees on-field decision. The referee had a great view in all fairness.
“I’ve said it a million times and I’ll say it again, it always looks a lot worse when it is in slow motion. It was a nasty one but it looked worse slowed down.”
