Everton news: ‘Serious changes’ expected after ‘big’ Lampard claim – pundit

Alan Hutton has tipped Frank Lampard to make “serious changes” at Everton this summer after Sunday’s defeat to Brentford.

The former Scotland international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the character shown by the Toffees squad will be a “worry” for the 43-year-old.

Everton took the lead twice against the Bees but fell to a 3-2 defeat at Goodison Park.

The Toffees had both Jarrad Branthwaite and Salomon Rondon sent off.

The result leaves Everton two points off the drop zone with two games left to play.

Hutton admitted the manner of the defeat will be concerning for Lampard.

He suggested there could be wholesale changes at Goodison Park this summer.

Discussing the mentality of the Everton squad, Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “It is a worry. To start so well is everything you want.

“With the change of formation, everything’s going well. Then you just kind of lose your head a little bit.

“A sending off, then another sending off, doesn’t help at all.

“I understand you’re showing great fight and character, you’re doing everything for the club, but you need to keep a calm head.

“This was a massive game for them, at home, to really go and put it to bed. It’s been a very difficult season.

“I still think they’re in the driving seat and I still believe they’ll stay up.

“But it is a worry for Lampard moving forward. He’ll be looking to make some serious changes for next season.”
