Everton next manager: Wyness drops sack verdict after ‘Dyche Out’ campaign

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted “knee-jerk” fan calls for manager Sean Dyche to be sacked are “natural”.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed Dyche is the right man for the job and has not lost the dressing room at Goodison Park.

Everton fell to a humiliating 6-0 defeat away at Chelsea on Monday (15 April) – leaving them just two points above the drop zone after winning just one of their last 11 league games.

The result prompted strong fan reaction on social media – with some even calling for the ex-Burnley boss to be sacked.

Everton have been deducted eight points in total this term and would be sitting 15th if they hadn’t broken Premier League financial rules.

‘Dyche Out’ campaign at Everton is ‘natural’ after Chelsea defeat, says Wyness

Dyche took the Goodison Park job in January 2023 and has won 31.6% of his 57 games in charge.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I’ve been monitoring the fan sentiment very closely.

“There’s no doubt that there has been a huge ‘Dyche Out’ campaign from the fanbase.

“That’s to be expected after a huge 6-0 defeat.

“I still personally believe that Dyche is the right person for this struggle. I don’t believe he’s lost the dressing room, he’s a very good man manager – and that will hopefully be shown with a reaction against Nottingham Forest.

“With a 6-0 loss, given everything that has gone on, it’s a knee-jerk reaction waiting to happen with everything the fans have been through.

“It’s natural, and I understand it.”
