Kieran Maguire issues ‘absolutely critical’ claim as Everton on verge of £300m deal

It is “absolutely critical” that Everton push on with their new stadium plans despite their spiralling financial issues.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the latest on the Bramley Moore Dock project.

The Toffees are set to move into their new waterfront 52,000-seater home in time for the 2024-25 season.

But relegation fears and combined losses of £373million over the last three years mean it is unclear what their financial picture will look like by then.

Liverpool Business News reported last Sunday (17 April) that they will press on with stadium construction even if they fall out of the Premier League.

And the Merseysiders are understood to be on the verge of striking a £300m financing agreement for stadium costs.

This is excellent news, insists Maguire.

“It is absolutely critical that they plow on with the stadium,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“This is particularly true given the new Uefa financial rules, which will likely lead to changes in the rules at Premier League and EFL levels.

“Everton have got to increase their income streams. They make around £14m in matchday income at the moment.

“The likes of Spurs and Man United make upwards of £100m. You can’t start so far behind if you truly want to be in the mix for Champions League spots.”

Everton

Everton have reportedly struck a real-time monitoring agreement with the Premier League to avoid financial fair play sanctions.

It is unclear how they would adapt to the EFL’s stricter regulations should they be relegated at the end of the season.
