Everton sent relegation warning by pundit after source’s injury update – ‘I fear for them’

Everton may be in a relegation battle by the time Dominic Calvert-Lewin returns to full fitness.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about another blow for the Toffees.

On Wednesday (3 August), Football Insider revealed that Calvert-Lewin is facing three months on the sidelines after tearing his lateral collateral ligament.

The 25-year-old is set to be sidelined for at least 10 weeks, ruling him out until November.

Salomon Rondon is now the Toffees’ only fit senior striker though he missed Saturday’s (6 August) 1-0 loss to Chelsea through suspension.

Kenny claims Everton must sign another striker to avoid a relegation fight.

“He missed a lot of last season as well and when he did come back, he looked sluggish,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I fear for Everton. Unless they get another striker in before the window shuts. If he’s going to be out for six to eight weeks, they could be in a relegation battle by then.

“I hope I am proved wrong because I like Everton, I really do like the club but I fear for them. To lose Calvert-Lewin is really tough for them and it’s something they weren’t expecting.

“But, injuries happen. Now they have to pull something out of the bag.”

Calvert-Lewin was only able to make 18 total appearances during the 2021-22 season, scoring five goals and providing two assists.

He has made 191 total appearances for the Toffees, scoring 58 goals.
