Ex-Fifa official on possible Marcus Rashford investigation after controversial Man United twist

Keith Hackett does not expect Marcus Rashford to be investigated by the FA for his comments after Man United beat Everton 2-1 on Sunday (9 October).

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Fifa and Premier League referee insisted he agree with Rashford after he queried why his goal was disallowed for handball.

The 24-year-old thought he had scored a third goal that would have wrapped up the game at Goodison Park.

However, after a VAR review, it was decided that he had handled the ball when controlling it after a James Tarkowski challenge.

Rashford wrote on Twitter that the decision was “questionable” but Hackett does not think he was questioning the integrity of the match officials.

He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I would be surprised if Rashford is asked to explain his views.

“He’s disappointed. It’s a questionable decision, I agree with him.

“People will say ‘It’s Man United, don’t worry, they still won’ and therefore it goes down in the pecking order.

“But I think we are seeing good goals ruled out because it hits the hand. This is why I want the word deliberate to be emphasised back in the law.

“I don’t think it was the intention of Rashford to handle.”

A goal at Goodison Park would have taken Rashford’s tally to six across all competitions this season.

Sources told Football Insider last week (5 October) that Arsenal are keeping close tabs on the England international as he is in the final year of his contract at Old Trafford.
