Ex-Fifa official: Ralf Rangnick faces FA punishment as controversial Man United image emerges

Ralf Rangnick may be hit with an FA fine after he stormed onto the pitch to intervene when his Man United players were involved in a mass confrontation with those of Leeds United during their 4-2 win on Sunday (20 February).

That is the view of ex-Fifa and Premier League referee Keith Hackett, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the scenes during stoppage time of the derby fixture.

The game was played on the edge at a hostile Elland Road as referee Paul Tierney dished out nine yellow cards.

While Rangnick’s intentions were well-intentioned, he may still feel the wrath of the FA.

“I can remember in the 2007 Carling Cup final between Arsenal and Chelsea in stoppage time there were three red cards given,” Hackett told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“In that melee, that mass confrontation both Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger came on the pitch and both were fined.

“While Rangnick may have good intentions he has to stay off the pitch. The technical area is for him.

“The FA have now got to do one of two things. They can send him a letter reminding him of his responsibilities within law or issue him a fine.

“He looks as though he might have had a go at the referee in relation to the Bruno Fernandes foul at some point.

“He has good intentions but you can’t do it. I get more and more convinced managers shouldn’t be allowed on the pitch even at the end of a game.

“In most countries, managers don’t come on but they do in England. It’s a trend that is one that shouldn’t happen.”

In other news, Ralf Rangnick could be sacked by Man United soon after a ‘massively concerning’ report.
