Ex-Premier League referee: Richarlison may face Tottenham ban as new claim issued
Richarlison could face a suspension for Tottenham at the start of the 2022-23 season, according to Keith Hackett.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Fifa and Premier League referee insisted the FA cannot forget Richarlison throwing a flare into the Everton crowd towards the end of the 2021-22 campaign.
The FA confirmed last month (1 June) that the 25-year-old had been charged for throwing a flare against Chelsea at the beginning of May.
However, there has been no update on the process and Tottenham confirmed last week (1 July) that they had signed Richarlison from Everton.
He responded on Twitter on the day of the charge with an image of him holding a flare from the game in question.
Asked why there had not been any punishment yet despite the charge, Hackett told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I think it’s this time of year with the facilities and the people that are usually involved in the disciplinary panel probably have holidays.
“Having said that, they can’t just forget it, it happened. I think it’s important for football, no matter whatever the outcome is, if they send a warning letter then they have to make people aware of the action they have taken.
“I don’t want to have a dig at the player but what I thought was very clear at the time, it was an offence that warranted action and that eventually means a suspension.”

Tottenham kick off their 2022-23 season with the visit of Southampton next month (6 August).
They then travel to London rivals Chelsea for their first away game of the season the following week.
