Ex-teammate verdict on James Tarkowski’s future after source’s offer update – ‘there’s talk of Newcastle’
James Tarkowski would be “a good fit” for Newcastle United, according to Paul Robinson.
The former England goalkeeper told Football Insider that the his ex-Burnley teammate would be “a great acquisition on a free” for Eddie Howe’s side.
Tarkowski is available on a free transfer this summer with his contract at Turf Moor set to expire at the end of June.

An Everton source told Football Insider (23 May) that Everton have offered a £120,000-a-week contract to the centre-half in a bid to win the race for his signature.
Newcastle United and West Ham are also understood to be closely monitoring the situation.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Tarkowski’s future, Robinson said: “Tarky is a very good player.
“He is not a top-four defender.
“You could put him in a Liverpool side alongside Virgil van Dijk but he would be best suited as a ball playing centre-half at a Newcastle, an Everton, an Aston Villa. There’s talk of Newcastle.
“He will be a great acquisition for somebody on a free.
“He has been clever running his contract down. It has worked out well for him. He will get the move that he wants.
“I think he’d be a good fit at Newcastle, Everton, Aston Villa or West Ham.”

Tarkowski made 37 appearances across all competitions in the 2021-22 campaign.
He joined Burnley from Brentford in February 2016.
