Ex-Uefa official: Man City victims of anti-English bias as fine issued
Keith Hackett has accused Uefa of an anti-English bias after Man City were fined for their actions during their 0-0 draw away at Atletico Madrid last month (13 Apri).
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Uefa and Premier League referee admitted he was “surprised” that Atletico Madrid were not fined as well for their role in the scenes at the Wanda Metropolitano.
BBC Sport reported last week (13 May) that Man City have been fined £11,910 for “improper conduct of the team”.
Felipe’s sending-off for a foul on Phil Foden in added time sparked a confrontation involving both sets of players and coaching staff.
Jack Grealish had his hair pulled by former City defender Stefan Savic and the pair continued their confrontation in the tunnel post-game.
Uefa’s disciplinary committee decided Atletico Madrid did not deserve any punishment.
Asked for his reaction to Uefa’s decision, Hackett told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I’m surprised absolutely.
“There seems to be a bit of unfairness in the process. I thought both teams were guilty and equally both teams should be fined.
“Uefa have got the responsibility of ensuring all clubs behave in a responsible way from a security point of view.
“I’m a bit surprised. I just wonder if it’s because it’s an English club.”

Football Insider reported last month (17 April) that Grealish’s role in the controversy had annoyed Pep Guardiola behind the scenes.
It is understood the City manager does not want any type of ill discipline or provocative behaviour at the club.
In other news, the door has opened for Man City to sign a midfielder and £50million could now seal the deal.
