Agbonlahor tips new contract for ‘Perfect’ Aston Villa player

Ahmed Elmohamady is the “perfect” back up to Matty Cash and should be given a new contract by Aston Villa, according to Gabriel Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer delivered his verdict after another right-back at the Midlands giants, Frederic Guilbert, moved to Strasbourg on loan until the end of the season.

This site revealed last month he had agreed a switch to the Ligue 1 side after not featuring in the Premier League all season.

He had previously rejected moves in January to Championship side Cardiff City and Turkish club Istanbul Basaksheir.

Cash is well established as Dean Smith’s first-choice right-back and was replaced by Elmohamady in the only game he has missed this season when he was suspended.

Elmohamady, 33, is out of contract at the end of the season but Agbonlahor has insisted his services should be retained by Villa.

He told Football Insider“I think they’ll keep Elmohamady.

“I reckon they’ll see how reliable he is, he’s not going to kick up a fuss when he doesn’t play.

“He knows that he’s back up for Cash and I don’t think Guilbert will want to be a back-up player next season either.

“Elmohamaddy is the perfect back up right-back. Just like Neil Taylor is the perfect back up left-back.

“They’re not going to moan when they’re not playing and they’ll be ready to come in and do a job when needed.”

Elmohamady moved to Aston Villa in 2017 when he followed his former Hull City manager Steve Bruce to Villa Park.

The Egypt international has played over 100 games for the club and played a key role in their promotion from the Championship.

In other news, Alan Hutton has revealed the Aston Villa squad are all saying the same thing about Morgan Sanson in training.
