Exclusive: Bent claims West Ham have ‘great signing’ lined up in experienced PL colossus
EXCLUSIVE
Darren Bent says that former Chelsea defender Gary Cahill would be a quality signing for West Ham if they choose to pounce for his capture.
The former England and Tottenham striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, says that the 33-year-old still has plenty to offer after leaving the Blues this summer and that a free transfer to the London Stadium would be a good move for the Irons.
As exclusively revealed by Football Insider, the Hammers have lined up a potential move for the 61-cap England international as they look to strengthen at the back, Manuel Pellegrini wanting to add another body to his squad.
Bent says that Cahill, who stands at a colossal 6ft 4in, would be a savvy capture for the east London outfit if they could pull it off.
“If West Ham can get him, that would be a great signing,” Bent told Football Insider.
“He can do a job for West Ham or someone over the next couple of years. He’s in good shape, he would be a good addition to anyone.”
West Ham has Issa Diop, Fabian Balbuena, Angelo Ogbonna and Winston Reid as their centre back options heading into the new campaign, while Cahill is without a club after being on the fringes at Chelsea last season.
He played just eight times across all competitions, finishing with 290 appearances for the Blues.
