Exclusive: Falkirk fear Scott Bain could leave in January months after Celtic move
Falkirk are braced for the potential departure of goalkeeper Scott Bain in January, sources have told Football Insider.
Scottish Premiership and Championship clubs are keeping tabs on the ex-Celtic star, 34, following an impressive start to the season.
The 34-year-old, who is a free agent at the end of the season, joined on a free transfer in the summer from the Glasgow giants.
Falkirk also signed ex-Rangers star Scott Arfield on a free transfer, joining the Bairns in February 2025, and the club also looked to their Old Firm rivals for a goalkeeper.
Scott Bain has been flying in the Scottish Premiership
Bain recently starred as Falkirk drew 0-0 with Rangers at Ibrox, having kept a clean sheet while making four saves, and rightfully, was crowned as one of the best players on the day.
While the 34-year-old only has two clean sheets in the Scottish Premiership this season, his form has helped Falkirk to climb to sixth in the table after winning promotion from the Championship last term.
The shot-stopper has also been involved with the Scotland national team, and while he remained on the bench for matches against Greece and Denmark, he could be going to the 2026 World Cup.
It is certainly understandable why so many clubs would be looking at Bain as a short-term option ahead of January, but it would leave Falkirk extremely light in the goalkeeper department.
Ex-Celtic star could take another step-up
A move away from Falkirk Stadium would certainly be an unexpected twist at this stage in the veteran shot-stopper’s career, having been in Scotland for the entirety of his career.
He made a total of 78 appearances for the Hoops before leaving on a free transfer during the summer, but before that, he had experience at Elgin City, Alloa Athletic, and Dundee.
Whichever team potentially ends up signing the 34-year-old, they will be adding a solid option to their squad for the second half of the 2025-26 campaign.
However, Falkirk will be absolutely devastated, given that McGlynn’s side are currently just two points behind the Gers, and 11 points off league leaders Hearts.
