Exclusive: Hutton claims writing on wall for Celtic player causing a ‘Storm’ at Parkhead
Alan Hutton claims that the writing is on the wall for Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon after his revelation about a lack of contract talks at Parkhead.
The former Aston Villa and Scotland full-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says that it appears as though the club have made their minds up over the shot-stopper’s future.
Gordon revealed earlier this month that the Hoops had not made any moves to extend his current deal at Celtic Park, the 36-year-old heading into the final six months of his contract.
Hutton admits he is not convinced the Scottish keeper should have come out and discussed his situation publicly and says it creates a bit of trouble for all parties.
“Personally I would rather keep it in but he feels the need to let it out,” Hutton told Football Insider.
“Maybe he’s a bit unhappy with the way that things have went so far, there’s obviously no talk of things with contracts or stuff which again, the writing is possibly on the wall it’s time to move on.
“It’s one of those decisions that he’s come out and talked about it, which is fine, it’s his choice if he wants to let everybody to know but I’d rather keep it in, it creates a storm really so maybe he’s saying that to ruffle up some interest, who knows?”
Gordon has struggled for game time since Fraser Forster’s return to Parkhead, the former Sunderland man playing just six times across all competitions this season.
He also has fellow Scottish star Scott Bain for competition, the duo battling it out to be Lennon’s number two between the sticks.
In other Celtic news, Hutton has admitted that a Hoops transfer report has him worried as a Rangers fan.
