Exclusive: Kasper Schmeichel passes Celtic medical – announcement imminent
Celtic have reached a full agreement to sign Kasper Schmeichel, sources have told Football Insider.
The 37-year-old has already completed a Hoops medical and agreed personal terms with the club.
According to sources, the deal should be finalised by the end of Saturday as Schmeichel gets ready to start life in Scotland.
The deal is regarded as a “huge” coup by those at Celtic Park, and Brendan Rodgers has played a vital role in getting it over the line.
The deal will see the Danish goalkeeper reunite with Rodgers following their time together at Leicester City, where they enjoyed plenty of success.
The Hoops have been on the hunt for a new number one goalkeeper since Joe Hart retired at the end of last season, but the search is now over.
Schmeichel was available this summer as a free agent after his contract with Anderlecht ended.
Celtic will gain a vastly experienced goalkeeper in Kasper Schmeichel
Schmeichel is viewed as a top signing for the defending Scottish Premiership champions due to his vast experience at the highest level.
The Denmark international played 479 times for Leicester, keeping 147 clean sheets and contributing significantly to their famous 2016 Premier League title win.
At 37, Schmeichel is still playing at a fantastic standard and recently played all four of Denmark’s games at the European Championships.
Last season he featured 32 times in all competitions for Anderlecht and kept eight clean sheets as the team conceded 33 times.

Schmeichel also boasts some experience playing in Scotland after he enjoyed a loan spell at Falkirk from Man City in 2007.
He made 10 appearances and kept three clean sheets during that time, but he now returns to the country at a much different stage of his career.
