Exclusive: Man United bag extra £34m after deals agreed
Manchester United have cut around £34million from their annual wage bill after several high-profile figures moved on over the summer, sources have told Football Insider.
Raphael Varane, Anthony Martial and Brandon Williams all left the club following the expiration of their contracts on 30 June.
Academy graduates Scott McTominay, Mason Greenwood, Willy Kambwala and Hannibal Mejbri were all sold during the summer transfer window, with those deals raking in more than £60million.
Elsewhere, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Donny van de Beek and Facundo Pellistri were also moved on for a combined total of around £20million.
Sofyan Amrabat returned to Fiorentina after Man United decided against turning his loan into a permanent deal, while Jadon Sancho joined Chelsea on loan.
Varane is understood to be the highest earner of those players after banking £340,000 a week, with Sancho raking in £300,000 weekly – of which Chelsea are believed to be paying around £250,000.
Man United have made big savings after mass exodus
Martial earned £250,000 a week during his nine-year stint with United, but the forward is yet to find a new club since leaving Old Trafford.
Van de Beek is believed to have netted £120,000 per week before joining Girona over the summer, while Wan-Bissaka raked in £90,000 weekly prior to his move to West Ham.
Amrabat, Williams, McTominay and Greenwood each banked between £50,000-£65,000 a week, with Pellistri on around £20,000.
Kambwala and Hannibal, meanwhile, both earned less than £10,000 weekly prior to their exits.
Sources have told Football Insider United have saved around £68.8million following the departures of those 12 players during the summer window.
But Erik ten Hag did strengthen his side with five new signings after spending more than £200million to bring in Leny Yoro, Manuel Ugarte, Matthijs de Ligt, Joshua Zirkzee and Noussair Mazraoui.
De Ligt is believed to be the highest earner of the summer additions after he was handed a £195,000-a-week deal following his £38.5million move from Bayern Munich.

Mazraoui is raking in £135,000 per week after also making the switch from Bayern, with Ugarte earning £120,000, Yoro netting £115,000 and Zirkzee on £105,000 per week.
Sources have told Football Insider United’s new additions have added £34.8million to their wage bill, meaning they have cut around £34million in wages from their annual salary expenditure.
But Ten Hag’s side have endured a difficult start to the new season as they currently sit 14th in the Premier League table.
