Exclusive: Robinson thrilled with reported Tottenham pursuit of 26y/o as may address ‘Issue’
Paul Robinson was thrilled to hear that Tottenham were believed to be in pursuit of Leicester City defender Ricardo Pereira.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former Spurs keeper believes Pereira was the type of right-back that Jose Mourinho should be looking to sign.
It was recently reported that the Portuguese boss wants to make the Foxes full-back his first signing as Spurs manager and that the club were lining up a £30million bid as a result.
Robinson admitted that while he did have the idea to sign João Cancelo from Manchester City, Pereira was of a similar mould.
The ex-Spurs keeper believes Mourinho would have identified the position of right-back as one that needs strengthening as it’s been an issue.
When asked if Pereira will be a good signing for Spurs, Robinson told Football Insider: “Yeah he’s good a right-back, and right-back is an area that he would have identified as it’s been an issue.
“I thought about Cancelo at Man City as he hasn’t really played, but I don’t know if there will be an opportunity to get someone like him.
“But a Premier League, international quality right-back is what’s needed at Tottenham at the moment and he fits the bill, both those players do.”
Pereira has played 22 times for Leicester this season, racking up two goals as well as two assists in his outings.
The 26-year-old has been with the Foxes since joining them from Portuguese giants FC Porto in 2018 and is contracted to stay at the King Power Stadium until 2023.
