Exclusive: PL 26-yr-old may down tools to force Tottenham move – Bruce

Alex Bruce has warned that there could be “all kind of problems” if Tottenham try to sign Bournemouth winger Ryan Fraser on a free contract this summer.

The former Hull City defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, claims the Scotland international could down tools to force a move through due to the uncertainty surrounding contracts during the Coronavirus pandemic.

As revealed by Football Insider, the 26-year-old is pushing for a move to north London after telling friends he would be keen on joining the Lilywhites on a free this summer.

The winger’s contract with the Cherries is set to come to an end this summer, leaving him facing the prospect of becoming a free agent.

However, with the Coronavirus pandemic throwing the season into turmoil, Bruce believes there could be a big spanner thrown into the works when it comes to Fraser’s future.

“I think he’s a good little player but I think it’s deeper than that,” Bruce told Football Insider.

“The problem that they’ve got is that people like Fraser, who are out of contract, who are one of Bournemouth’s better players, when it comes to June 30th or whenever his contract finished, he’s well within his rights to go: ‘Hold on a minute, you’ve let my contract run out, I haven’t sorted anything out.’

“He might have a deal lined up, for argument’s sake, with Spurs, where does that leave Bournemouth? It creates all kind of problems. Yes, I think he’d be a good player for Spurs in the long-term but short-term, where’s it going to leave Bournemouth?

“What happens if Fraser turns round and says: ‘Hold on, I’m not kicking a ball for anyone, I’m out of contract and I don’t want to risk getting injured.”

Fraser has a total of 208 appearances under his belt for Bournemouth to date, with 120 of those games coming in the Premier League.

A left-winger by trade, he has also featured as a wing-back on both sides of the defence for Eddie Howe this season.

In other Tottenham news, it can be REVEALED that Daniel Levy may have a “gentleman’s agreement” over blockbuster transfer.
