Exclusive: Rangers finalise manager appointment after takeover confirmation

Rangers are set to finalise a new manager appointment after their US-backed takeover is ratified and confirmed, sources have told Football Insider.

A consortium led by Leeds United owners 49ers Enterprises are expected to take control at Ibrox in due course.

The Glasgow giants are currently managerless after Philippe Clement‘s sacking earlier this year – with interim boss Barry Ferguson not kept on after a caretaker spell.

Sources say former Real Madrid assistant boss Davide Ancelotti is the “prime candidate and front-runner” for the role.

Ancelotti is the top target for Rangers

Former Rangers boss Steven Gerrard and ex-Feyenoord boss Brian Priske have also been looked at by the incoming Ibrox chiefs.

It is believed the Gers will be “all systems go” in terms of crowning their new manager once clarity on their takeover timeline is achieved.

Rangers are very keen to agree a swift deal to put a new man in the dugout – with their Champions League qualifying campaign starting on 22 July.

Ancelotti has worked as an assistant to his father, Carlo, since taking a role with Paris Saint-Germain in 2012.

However, the legendary Italian – who is now in charge of Brazil’s national side – has confirmed Davide is in talks with a European club over becoming a manager in his own right.

Rangers finished some 17 points adrift of rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership this term and were eliminated at the quarter-final stage of the Europa League.

Rangers chase United States international wing-back

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (27 May) that West Brom and Rangers are chasing LASK defender George Bello.

The United States international, 23, is out of contract in the summer of 2026 and is valued by the Austrian club at around £1million.

Bello is a long-term target for Rangers, who have scouted him for the last three seasons.
