Exclusive: Robinson rips apart senior Tottenham player who looks ‘Out of his depth’

Paul Robinson ripped into Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier following his performance in the 3-1 loss to Bayern Munich.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former Spurs keeper claimed the game against Bayern Munich passed Dier by.

The 25-year-old midfielder played 81 minutes of the loss to Bayern Munich on Wednesday before being replaced by Victor Wanyama.

Jose Mourinho opted to rest several big-names for Spurs’ latest clash with his side already having done enough to qualify for the next stage of the Champions League.

Robinson explained that he thought Dier looked out of his depth against the German giants with Philippe Coutinho teaching the Spurs midfielder a lesson.

The ex-Spurs star also added that he was surprised to see Mourinho give Dier the captain’s armband for the game.

“He (Victor Wanyama) came on for Eric Dier and I think he should have come on a lot sooner than that,” Robinson told Football Insider.

“I think the game passed Eric Dier by and I was surprised Mourinho gave him the captaincy and Coutinho gave him a lesson in midfield as he looked out of his depth.”

Dier has played 11 times this season across all competitions and has racked up four yellow cards in the process.

The England international struggled to feature regularly for Spurs in his 2018/19 season due to various injury problems limiting him to 28 appearances.

Dier has been a Spurs player since joining from Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon in 2014 and is contracted to stay with the North London club until 2021.
