Exclusive: Robinson urges reportedly frustrated West Ham player to avoid regrettable decision

Paul Robinson urged West Ham attacker Albian Ajeti not to make any decision about his future just yet.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the ex-Spurs goalkeeper urged the Hammers forward to stick around and fight for his chances.

It was reported that Ajeti was open to a loan exit from the Hammers due to be frustrated over a lack of first-team opportunities.

Robinson suggested that the 22-year-old could fare better under a different manager and advised the attacker not to make a regrettable decision.

When asked about Ajeti being open to a loan exit, Robinson told Football Insider: “He’s still only 22 and he’s come in and not played which is obviously going to be very very difficult.

“And he’s not played in a team that’s struggling, he’s played the minimum amount of minutes, he’s featured in a couple of League Cup games.

“So he’s come in and not hit the ground running.

“I think it’s too early to make any kind of judgement or decision on his future, whether he’ll be leaving or not, and it’ll be interesting to see whether he sticks around if the manager leaves.

“When you’re in that situation as a player, I’ve been in it myself, when you’re not in the squad, sometimes it better to stick around as your four-year contract will more than outlast the manager’s.

“I made the mistake at Tottenham, well not a mistake, but I didn’t get on with Juande Ramos at the time and I left, then three months later he was gone.

“In hindsight, if given the option again, maybe I should have stayed a bit longer? I don’t know but you don’t want to do anything rash especially as it was such a big move for him coming from Basel.”

Ajeti joined the Hammers from Swiss side FC Basel in the summer and is yet to start a Premier League game for Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

The 22-year-old has featured five times in the league off the bench and did start both of the Hammers’ EFL Cup clashes.
