Exclusive: Sheffield Wednesday set to sign two new attackers after double breakthrough

Sheffield Wednesday have agreed terms to sign Crystal Palace striker Connor Wickham and Wigan Athletic playmaker Josh Windass before Friday’s transfer deadline, Football Insider understands.

The Owls have been looking to bolster their attacking options throughout the January window and set their sights on the 26-year-old duo as two of their top targets.

A source at Hillsborough has told Football Insider that there have been breakthroughs in negotiations with both Palace and Wigan and that both are set to complete their moves late on deadline day.

As revealed exclusively by Football Insider earlier on Friday, Garry Monk’s men have been locked in negotiations with Wigan over a deal for former Rangers man Windass but it is understood there has been significant progress during the day.

The 26-year-old has been in and out of the side for the Latics this season, with a total of 15 Championship appearances and four goals under his belt.

Meanwhile Wickham has also been a man in demand this month, Football Insider revealing that Wednesday’s Championship rivals Cardiff had made an approach for his capture.

In other Sheffield Wednesday news, it can be REVEALED that the club have been plotting a raid to sign a hitman with 13 goals to his name this season.
