Exclusive: Wolves owners could face £200m+ takeover blow

Wolves’ valuation could drop by more than £200million if the club are relegated this season, sources have told Football Insider

Chinese conglomerate Fosun International has owned the West Midlands side for the past nine years, having agreed a £45m deal with former owner Steve Morgan in 2016.

There has been plenty of speculation around a Wolves takeover in recent weeks following their disappointing start to the season.

Speaking on The Athletic FC Podcast on 4 November, journalist Matt Slater revealed the market believes Wolves’ owners have been looking to sell the club for some time and would love to agree a deal worth between £350-400m.

Sources have told Football Insider Wolves’ value could drop to between £150-200m if they are relegated from the Premier League this season.

John Textor could face issues agreeing Wolves takeover

Rob Edwards has been confirmed as the new Wolves boss after deciding to leave his role at Middlesbrough just months after joining the Championship side.

Edwards has taken over at Molineux with the club eight points from safety at the bottom of the Premier League table.

It’s no secret Wolves have been open to external investment, but it’s been suggested only a minority stake is available.

John Textor has emerged as a surprise name to buy Wolves after selling his shares in Crystal Palace over the summer.

talkSPORT reported on 27 October the American billionaire has launched a bid to purchase the Midlands club, with the offer believed to consist of £150m in cash and a further £262.2m in shares.

However, finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider Textor doesn’t appear to be in a position to buy Wolves at this moment in time.

Textor owns majority stakes in French club Lyon, Brazilian first division outfit Botafogo and Belgian side RWD Molenbeek through Eagle Football Holdings.

Wolves to back Rob Edwards as January transfer plan revealed

Football Insider revealed on 12 November Wolves are expected to back Edwards with the necessary funds to make new signings in the January transfer window.

The 42-year-old, who only joined Middlesbrough in June, has left the Riverside Stadium with the club sitting second in the Championship table.

Edwards’s first game in charge of Wolves will come against Crystal Palace on 22 November at Molineux.
