Expert: Antonio Conte ‘certain’ to sign new Tottenham deal after update

Antonio Conte will sign a new contract at Tottenham despite fresh doubts this week.

That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

On Tuesday (20 December), The Athletic reported sources close to key figures in the negotiations of Conte’s new contract sound less optimistic than they did earlier in the season about a deal being reached.

Sources told this site in October that Tottenham are offering Conte a jaw-dropping new deal worth more than £20million-a-year.

Wenham insists Conte will sign a new long-term deal.

“Are things ever compete straightforward in high-profile negotiations like these?” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I think Conte just wants assurances. He wants to know that the club will match his ambition on and off the field.

“That is a position I completely understand going into a January transfer window. I am certain he will sign a new deal.

“Not just the 12-month extension already included in his current contract, I think he will sign a new long-term deal on more money.

“I’m very very confident the club want to keep him and will do everything they can. I think we will offer what he wants and a couple of signings in January could prove that ambition to him.

“People are worried by these reports but I don’t think anything has really changed.”

Tottenham return to league action against Brentford on Boxing Day.

They sit fourth in the Premier League after winning nine games before the World Cup.

In other news, pundit claims January signing could spell the end for £25m Tottenham star – “there’s a lot of talk”.
