Expert baffled by Roberto De Zerbi’s Tottenham reveal – ‘seriously?’

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi is wrong to say his side deserved to beat Tottenham at the weekend.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Tottenham beat Brighton 1-0 at the AMEX on Saturday (8 October) as the hosts lost their first home game since March.

As quoted by Sky Sports after the game, De Zerbi claimed “the result is not fair”, and insisted “after the first 15 minutes, on the pitch it was only Brighton”.

As per BBC Sport, Brighton had 59% possession to Tottenham’s 41% and also registered more shots on target than the away side.

However, Wenham does not agree with De Zerbi’s assessment.

“Seriously? Someone should remind De Zerbi how many clear-cut chances Brighton had in that game,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I am really struggling to think of any. There were long balls up to Welback which were comfortably dealt with by Romero and Dier.

“Other than that I don’t remember them doing anything. Trossard scored three at Anfield last week and he did absolutely nothing against us.

“We didn’t see Lamptey bombing forward on the right-hand side. Those are really strange comments from De Zerbi.

“I am not sure what he is trying to achieve with those comments.”

Tottenham are next in action against Frankfurt on Wednesday (12 October).

The Lilywhites have so far only won once in this season’s Champions League.
