Expert drops ‘massive’ Tottenham manager claim after source’s reveal

Alan Hutton has insisted the next manager of Tottenham needs to have a “massive say” in their transfer business.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs defender insisted fans will have to continue to be patient before they see real change at the club.

According to the Daily Mail (23 May), chairman Daniel Levy has held talks with betting experts over developing a more data-driven model for recruitment following the lead of clubs liked Brentford and Brighton who have been highly successful with using data in their transfer process.

But the Lilywhites are still in search of a manager to guide the direction of the club moving forward after sacking Antonio Conte earlier this year.

The London club have turned their attention to Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou as well as former Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers in their hunt for a permanent Conte replacement.

When asked if a change to recruitment strategy might put off a new manager, Hutton told Football Insider: “It depends who it is.

Some managers have a massive say in what goes on in the full football club from recruitment down to what they eat. Some people just want to take care of what happens on the field.

It really just depends on who Levy brings in, who he wants to manage all this moving forward because it is a huge project now.

Tottenham

There is going to have to be a lot of ins and outs and having to get rid of the players to bring his own ones in but you have to give the manager that option.

I know they have been patient but they are going to have to give them a good few transfer windows with the same manager to try and build something.
