Expert issues worrying Gabriel Jesus claim after Arsenal update – ‘all of a sudden…’

Gabriel Jesus has suffered a setback in his recovery at Arsenal and will target March or April as an ideal time to make his comeback.

That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.

Jesus has been out injured at Arsenal since suffering meniscus damage while at the World Cup with Brazil.

The 25-year-old Brazilian arrived in north London for £45million in the summer and made a bright start to his time at Arsenal by scoring and assisting three times in his first five Premier League games.

But Mikel Arteta revealed on Tuesday (17 January) that Jesus’s recovery timeline has been pushed back until the “final months” of the season.

Dinnery believes the nature of Jesus’ knee injury was always likely to lead to further setbacks in the rehabilitation stage.

With meniscus damage and the extent of his problem, there was always a big likelihood that Jesus’s recovery gets pushed to three or four months.

All of a sudden, Arsenal are looking in the region of March to April as the new timeline.

It doesn’t really come as a huge surprise, but Arsenal would have been hoping to trim a couple of weeks off if things went smoothly.

But there are no guarantees with injuries and recovery timelines tend to be best-case scenarios.

Overall, February is now out of the question for Jesus, and Mikel Arteta will be desperate to get him back around March so he can play a part in what will be a pivotal period for the Gunners.
