Expert: Leicester forced to seek specialist for James Maddison as staff left ‘perplexed’
The changes in James Maddison’s knee injury at Leicester City were so bizarre that staff wanted a second opinion from a specialist to help diagnose his issue.
That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the setback suffered by Maddison following his stint with the England team in Qatar.
After a superb start to the Premier League season, Maddison was handed a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad for the 2022 World Cup.

The Leicester star failed to make a single appearance for the Three Lions in Qatar, and things went from bad to worse when he suffered a knee injury on his return to the King Power Stadium.
Brendan Rodgers spoke last Tuesday (27 December) about Maddison having “a problem with the back of his knee” during his time in Qatar, but explained that “he now has something at the front.”
Dinnery explained that the change in Maddison’s injury was unusual – so much so that the Leicester staff were forced to seek out the opinion of a specialist in London.
“Maddison went out to Qatar with an issue that presented in the posterior – the back of the knee, almost to the point of being a hamstring issue,” the injury expert told Football Insider.
“He was deemed fit enough to train and then he returns to Leicester and suddenly he has this negative reaction.
“But instead of the pain presenting at the back, it’s more on the anterior aspect at the front of the knee.
“And so that was something that had the medical team perplexed, which is why they sought a second opinion with a specialist down in London.

“Thankfully, those evaluations and assessments came back relatively clear.
“So expect him to undergo a bit of a mini midseason programme to ensure that he comes in at peak fitness – the last thing Leicester want is to worsen his injury at such a crucial time.“
