Expert: Liverpool could announce Antony deal ‘tomorrow’ after source’s update

Liverpool could announce the signing of Ajax star Antony “tomorrow”.

That’s according to former Rangers and Scotland boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about a possible incoming at Anfield.

On Tuesday (19 July), sources told this site that Liverpool have made an approach to sign Antony, 22.

The Dutch club are said to value the Brazilian winger at the £59million mark after he helped the side to consecutive Eredivisie triumphs.

Man United have also been strongly linked with the forward but are said to be unwilling to meet the asking price for the player who has three years remaining on his current deal.

McLeish claims the Reds could make a surprise announcement soon after the previous examples of “clandestine” deals done by the club.

“What they have been good at, is recruitment,” McLeish told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild

“The thing is, we don’t know. Liverpool could tomorrow announce something that we haven’t been aware of.

“That’s the way that they work, in that clandestine way where nobody knows your business.

“It’s not for me to tell Klopp if he needs someone else. He will absolutely 100% get what the team needs.”

Antony made 32 appearances for Ajax across all competitions during the 2021-22 season, scoring 12 goals and providing ten assists as his side won the title.

He joined the Dutch giants from Sao Paulo in February 2020 after coming through the Brazilian side’s academy.
