‘Too big for them’ – Expert makes huge claim about recently confirmed Rangers deal
Football shirt expert Neal Heard believes the likes of Nike are “too big” for Rangers now after the Ibrox giants announced Danish brand Hummel as their new kit manufacturer.
The Gers confirmed a deal with the Danes last week after a number of years with Puma but Heard thinks not being in the Champions League harms the Gers’ visibility for massive worldwide brands.
Despite this, Heard admits he would have told Hummel to “snap” Rangers’ hand off to be associated with the Glasgow giants.
“No disrespect to Rangers but the likes of Nike are too big for them now,” Heard said, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“Rangers are a massive club but if you’re not in the Champions League , let’s face it no one is paying attention to the teams from the smaller leagues.
“I consult with the brand on this kind of stuff and actually I had some dealings with Hummel before.
“But I would have said to them if you can get hold of a club like Rangers, snap their hand off.”
The Light Blues are the largest club among Hummel’s stable with the likes of Charlton and Go Ahead Eagles among their catalogue, while the Danish national team also wear the manufacturer’s kits.
With the Gers looking to get back on a similar level as rivals Celtic, the new deal will bring additional funds into Ibrox ahead of an expected overhaul of the playing squad this summer.
Football Insider verdict:
If Hummel are willing to pay more money than Nike, Adidas, New Balance or anybody else then it really doesn’t matter too much who makes the strips. The only thing fans really care about is what is the best deal for the club and many will buy the strip regardless of how it looks. While having one of the major brands sounds great, there are plenty of clubs who are with them who you would never have known about. If the money is used towards strengthening the team and closing the gap on Celtic then most fans simply couldn’t care less if they have a more ‘glamorous’ brand.
