Expert predicts Newcastle United plan for Garang Kuol as ‘exciting’ claim made
Garang Kuol may not play for the senior Newcastle United side for more than two years despite featuring at the 2022 World Cup.
That is according to Spurs and youth football expert John Wenham, who regularly attends Premier League 2 and other youth games up and down the country.
Kuol, 18, became the ninth-youngest player to feature at a World Cup when he came off the bench for Australia against France on Tuesday (23 November).
The Central Coast Mariners star signed for Newcastle on 30 September but his move will only go through in January.
Wenham insists Newcastle fans should get excited about the arrival of the youngster.
“He is very highly regarded in youth circles,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“It seems he has been watched by talent spotters all over the region and all over the world for a significant number of years as he was coming through.
“I think Newcastle fans should be excited by this but don’t expect too much, this is a guy who has played football in Australia.
“The plan for him will be to come in and allow him to play in the academy for six months or even a full season before looking to loan him out to maybe a Championship team.
“That being said, it is always nice to see clubs stealing a march on transfers and getting them done early so well done Newcastle.”

Kuol has scored twice and assisted twice in four A-League appearances this season.
Despite his Australia call-up, the striker is yet to start in the league for his club side.
