Expert reveals why Ivan Perisic missed Tottenham clash as medical staff ‘worried’

Tottenham did not want to risk aggravating Ivan Perisic’s recent injury in the side’s first pre-season clash of the summer.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Perisic, 33, played no part as Spurs beat K League 6-3 on Wednesday (13 July).

Richarlison was the only summer signing to make an appearance after Yves Bissouma and Fraser Forster were sidelined with Covid.

Clement Lenglet was also unable to secure a visa after he joined the club last Friday (8 July).

Wenham predicts Perisic will make his Spurs debut against Sevilla.

“I am really looking forward to the Sevilla game and hopefully in that one, we will see Perisic make his debut,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“It sounds like he has a calf injury carried over from his time at Inter Milan.

“I think they were worried about the monsoon conditions on the pitch yesterday and whether it was worthwhile risking him.

“So, let’s give it a few more days. He has trained with the squad so we will have to see what happens.

“We have made five signings and we only saw one of them against K League, just Richarlison.

“I am looking forward to seeing the other players involved.”

Tottenham face Sevilla on Saturday (16 July) before returning to the UK to face Rangers at Ibrox on 23 July.

Spurs will then face Roma in Israel on 30 July before returning to Premier League action against Wolves on 6 August.
