Expert shares ‘huge’ Tottenham transfer claim after source’s Pau Torres update

Tottenham may struggle to sign Pau Torres with the club already set to shell out a “huge sum” for Cristian Romero this summer.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

This site revealed on 22 March that Tottenham are keeping tabs on Spain international Torres, 25, ahead of the summer window.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Torres is once again on the radar of Spurs and Conte after they failed with a move last summer (2021).

Torres, who is out of contract in 2024, is valued at more than £50m by Villarreal, with Conte believing he is one of Europe’s finest centre-backs.

However, Wenham claims Spurs may not make their move this summer.

“It was confirmed Torres turned us down last summer because we didn’t have Champions League football,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“That’s fair enough. The issue here is Tottenham need to remember they are paying for Cristian Romero this summer as well.

“He joined on loan last summer with an obligation to buy this summer so we need to make sure that is paid.

“That’s already one huge sum of money we have to spend so we need to be careful about what else we do in the summer.

Romero is on loan at Tottenham from Juventus and he has made 16 Premier League appearances this season.

Torres has played 36 games in all competitions for Villarreal this season, netting five goals.

In other news, there has been a major update on Lucas Moura’s Tottenham future amid the latest on Dejan Kulusevski.
