Ezri Konsa reacts to Kieran Trippier’s message amid Aston Villa exit news

Aston Villa could be set to lose Ezri Konsa in the summer transfer window, and the defender has reacted to Kieran Trippier’s latest social media message.

Konsa was part of the Unai Emery side that were pipped to the final Champions League spot by Trippier’s Newcastle, on the last day of the season.

Villa were beaten 2-0 by Manchester United, but the big talking point from the game was a controversial refereeing decision which saw Morgan Rogers have his goal wrongly disallowed, while the scores were still level.

As a result, the Villans missed out on £200million of profit, and are now scrambling to try and meet PSR regulations, and avoid a points deduction.

Konsa linked with Chelsea

Konsa impressed in the Villa defence last season, featuring in 34 out of a possible 38 games in the Premier League, while also playing a big role in their Champions League run.

However, with a £200m hole in their accounts after missing out on Europe’s elite competition, Unai Emery’s side may have to sell the defender.

Former Man United and Aston Villa scout Mick Brown exclusively told Football Insider that Chelsea are interested in Konsa, to bring some stability to their backline.

Amid the rumours, the 27-year-old took to social media to respond to one of his international teammates and a fellow defender.

Newcastle full-back Trippier shared a post on Instagram of himself on holiday with teammate Jamaal Lascelles and assistant coach Jason Tindall, with the caption: “Family time in Turkey.”

Konsa responded by liking the post to show his appreciation.

Villa set for ‘fire-sale’

Football Insider Verdict

Former CEO Keith Wyness exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Villa need to raise £150m-200m, to stay on the right side of the PSR rules.

Konsa may not be the only one departing either, with midfielder Jacob Ramsey attracting the interest of Tottenham and Arsenal, as clubs look to capitalise on the situation at Villa Park.

Fellow youngster Morgan Rogers could be off to Manchester City or Chelsea, in a move that could raise £100m for the Midlands-based club.

Villa have found themselves in this situation before, and they were forced to sell Douglas Luiz to Juventus last summer, despite wanting to keep the Brazilian.

Missing out on Champions League football could have disastrous consequences for Emery’s side, but one big sale may be enough to balance the books.
