Fans react on Twitter to huge Chris Sutton claim about Celtic ace Kieran Tierney

By James Black

Chris Sutton has declared that Kiernan Tierney is the best British-born full-back playing in Britain after Celtic’s 2-1 Champions League defeat – and fans of other clubs on Twitter have rubbished the pundit’s bold claim.

The 20-year-old Celtic ace has become a fan favourite with the Hoops’ support and is attracting interest from a host of clubs but it appears Sutton’s hyperbole has missed the mark this time.

Sutton made the claim on BT Sport after the full-time whistle at Celtic Park and before long the former Hoops striker was being destroyed online.

“He’s the best British-born full-back in Britain for me,” Sutton said, as quoted by BT Sport Football’s official Twitter account.

“He’s 20-years-old and if you look at Kyle Walker he’s 28; Bertrand, 28; Danny Rose, good players.

“That boy is going places and Celtic have done the right thing and put him on a six-year contract.

“I’d love to know what the trigger for the release clause is.

“It has to be £30million, at least.”

Fans of other clubs laughed off the suggestion that Tierney was in the same stratosphere as Premier League stars like Danny Rose and Ryan Bertrand.

Here are some of their comments on Twitter:

Tierney has become a key player for club and country over the last 18 months and continues to enjoy a growing reputation.

The left-back was impressive against Bayern and has been Celtic’s best player so far in their Champions League campaign.

The 20-year-old is one game short of 100 appearances for the Hoops but with his his reputation growing and growing he might not still be at Celtic to make his 200th appearance.
