Ferguson: This senior Rangers man will be axed in the summer
Former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson does not think Graeme Murty will be Rangers manager at the start of next season.
Murty has had an up and down second stint as caretaker manager of Rangers but Ferguson thinks recent home losses to Celtic and to Kilmarnock have done for his chances of landing the job on a permanent basis.
Rangers have now lost more times at home this season than in any other since 1914/15.
Talking on STV, as quoted by the Scottish Sun, Ferguson said: “At this moment in time if you’re a manager, you’re looking at your recruitment for next season.
“But nobody knows what’s happening. It’s looking like it’ll be a difficult one to appoint Graeme Murty.”
When asked directly if Murty would be in the dugout at the start of the 2018/19 campaign, Ferguson gave an unequivocal “no”.
Football Insider verdict:
It’s tough on Murty but the groundswell of opinion seems to be surging against him at the moment. It’s not entirely his fault – he has improved the team since Pedro Caxinha left and he hasn’t had a lot of time to gel his new-look squad. We’d be tempted to give him another year in the hotseat, but luminaries of the club such as Ferguson think his time is up. Is it wise to keep changing managers all the time though? Murty has surely proved he’s good enough for a one-year rolling contract?
