Kris Boyd: This is why I did not celebrate scoring against Rangers
Former Rangers star Kris Boyd has revealed why he didn’t celebrate his goal at Ibrox in Saturday’s win over the Gers – joking he only celebrates at Pittodrie.
The Kilmarnock striker scored the only goal of the game as Graeme Murty’s side fell to a surprise 1-0 defeat at Ibrox to throw the Dons a lifeline in the race for second place in the Scottish Premiership.
Despite not celebrating, Boyd admitted it was a “great occasion” to score against his old side as Killie kept up their recent good form
“It is a great occasion to come and score,” Boyd said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
“I’m not one for celebrating – unless it’s at Aberdeen.
“For me, I have a good bond with the fans here.
“If it had been anybody else that scored, we’d have been just as happy.”
The striker enjoyed two spells at Ibrox although failed to live up to expectations after his return.
During his first spell with the Gers, Boyd smashed the Scottish Premiership goalscoring record and has continued to score regularly for Killie with his strike at Ibrox his 20th of the season.
Football Insider verdict:
While it’s a nice sentiment that players don’t want to celebrate against their old team, unless they are being genuinely disrespectful, most fans probably couldn’t care. Boyd was a fantastic goalscorer for the Gers and has shown his predatory instinct hasn’t left as he has continued to smash goals in for the Rugby Park side. Rangers fans will be hoping he gets the chance to shoot down Celtic once more before the end of the season if Killie can sneak into the top six.
In other Rangers news, fans have demanded that the club signs this Old Firm scourge in the summer, claiming he is better than Celtic’s Olivier Ntcham.
