Steven Naismith: This is what Rangers are really lacking at the moment
Former Rangers striker Steven Naismith believes the Gers lack of “knowledge” of how to see out games at home is what is costing them this season as they try and stop Celtic winning a seventh successive title.
The Gers have dropped points at Ibrox against Hearts, Hibs, Celtic, Hamilton, Ross County, St. Johnstone and Kilmarnock this season so far and Naismith believes it’s something that will cost Rangers titles if it isn’t sorted.
The Gers are currently five points off Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic despite their disappointing home form costing them valuable points.
Naismith revealed several Gers legends passed on similar advice when he was a player a the club between 2007 and 2012.
“The Hearts game, the two Aberdeen games, those are tough, tough games and they came through them and showed a resilience,” Naismith said, as quoted by the Evening Times.
“But I remember when I was there, guys like Barry Ferguson, Davie Weir, even Durranty [Ian Durrant] and John Brown would be telling us that those aren’t the games that win you titles.
“It’s the home games where everyone expects you to batter teams and win that are the toughest, and dealing with the crowd when things aren’t going well.
“That’s what they are really lacking at the moment, having that knowledge of how to see out a game at home.”
Naismith won three Scottish titles, one Scottish Cup and one Scottish League cup during his time at Ibrox and scored 33 times in 140 appearances.
After leaving Ibrox, Naismith joined Everton before making the move to Carrow Road in 2016.
The striker has only made three appearances for Norwich this season and could leave the Canaries in January.
