Frank Lampard: This exceptional Tottenham player gives them an edge in title race

By Harry Sykes

Frank Lampard has claimed that Tottenham are still title challengers due to the “edge” given them by the inspirational Harry Kane.

The Spurs striker maintained his excellent form with two more goals on Sunday as his side defeated Everton 3-2 to secure their ninth consecutive home win.

It consolidated the London club’s position at second in the Premier League table and narrowed the gap on leaders Chelsea to seven points.

Antonio Conte’s side are in action on Monday night, when they make the short journey to the London Stadium for face West Ham.

City lie in third place in the league table, a point behind Tottenham and with a game in hand on the north London outfit.

Chelsea legend Lampard gave an upbeat appraisal of Mauricio Pochettino’s side as he revealed how he has been blown by the sensational display of Kane.

When asked in a Sky Sports interview, broadcast on Sky Sports News on Monday, who could catch Chelsea if they slipped up in their remaining fixtures, Lampard said: “I think it is between Man City and Tottenham.

“The way that Harry Kane’s playing at the minute, he is not carrying Tottenham on their own, they are a very good team, but his performances are making him one of the best strikers in the world on current form. So that gives them an edge.”

He added: “I think Man City, I see Pep says they need to win every game and I think that’s right, can they do that, I’m not sure they can.

“But I think City, if they get on a good run with the way they play, I still think have defensive issues there that are causing them problems which mean they won’t win every game until the end of the season.”

Kane has scored three hat-tricks in his last nine appearances and tops the Premier League scoring charts for the season with 19 goals.

This places him ahead of Everton’s Romelu Lukaku (18) and Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez (17) as he chases a second consecutive Premier League golden boot after scoring 25 last season.
