‘Fulham lead race to sign Calvert-Lewin – I’m hearing from my sources’

Fulham are leading the race to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer, according to one of Everton’s top sources.

The 28-year-old is now without a club, after announcing that he was leaving the Toffees following the expiration of his contract.

Last season, the England international was plagued by injury, starting just 19 Premier League games and managing just three goals for David Moyes’ side.

Following his departure from Goodison Park, Football Insider exclusively revealed that Calvert-Lewin will have offers to stay in the Premier League, with both Fulham and Newcastle interested.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that the Cottagers are in prime position to bring the striker to West London.

‘Fulham in negotiations with Calvert-Lewin’, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness revealed that Fulham are furthest along in negotiations to sign Calvert-Lewin, and are favourites to get the deal over the line.

The forward has been at Everton since a move from Sheffield United in 2016, back when he was just 19 years old.

Wyness insisted that the Englishman would be remembered very fondly by the Toffees fans.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Now the rumours I’m hearing from my sources are that Fulham are favourites. I think Fulham could well be an interesting one for him. I don’t know if that’s going to be true, but I’m hearing that they’re the ones furthest advanced in negotiations.

“He’s been there (at Everton) a long time. He came from Sheffield United about nine years ago, so he’s been with the club a long time.

“He’ll be remembered very fondly by the fans, for the goal against Crystal Palace that kept Everton up back in 2022. And he was well-liked, Dominic, and his injury record was just the one thing that plagued him a little bit.

“I did think it would have been good for him to have stayed another season, shown some stability and I think Moyes would have given him a chance and really helped him. But then again, a fresh start could also work.”

‘Everton close on Idrissa Gueye deal’

Meanwhile, Everton are reportedly closing in on an agreement with Idrissa Gueye as talks over a new contract continue behind the scenes on Merseyside.

That is according to former Manchester United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who claims that the Toffees are confident the 35-year-old will put pen to paper soon.

The midfielder’s contract officially expired on 30 June, but he has remained in talks and David Moyes is keen to see him extend his stay.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider on 22 June that multiple Ligue 1 clubs have offered Gueye contracts after speaking to his agent about a deal.
