‘Future Ballon D’Or winner’ – Tottenham fans reacts to major Marcus Edwards news

By Harry Sykes

Marcus Edwards has agreed the terms of a new Tottenham contract – and fans have taken to Twitter to express their delight.

Spurs announced on their official Twitter account on Saturday afternoon that playmaker Edwards, 18, has committed to a three-year deal that runs until 2020.

The deal reflects the progress the highly-rated left-footer has made during his progression through the Spurs youth ranks.

He has made only one first-team appearance – in the League Cup last September – but has made a big impression with supporters due to his dribbling ability and technical quality in performances for the Under-18s and Under-23s.

The Tottenham faithful are delighted he has been tied down to a new deal and praised the club for putting their faith in a player destined for the top.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Edwards has been praised for first-team manager Mauricio Pochettino but his progress stalled last season due to injury and illness, including a three-month spell on the sidelines with an ankle problem.

In other Tottenham news, Spurs are firmly in the driving seat to sign a creative spark for a bargain price and Pochettino wants the deal done.
