Future is bright for Celtic prospect as regular game time leads to international success

COMMENT

Celtic prospect Anthony Ralston could really be on the verge of a major breakthrough with the Hoops as he continues his impressive run of performances.

The 19-year-old right-back was one of the stand-out performers for Scotland as the under-21 side pulled off a famous victory over France in Toulon.

The youngster’s confidence seems to have gone through the roof, after he joined Dundee United on loan last season.

They might have failed to get promoted, but Ralston was as stand-out for the Tannadice side who reached the semi-final of the play-offs.

Now that he has got a taste of regular football, he will want it on a regular basis, and the chance seems to be there for him next season.

The Hoops’ right-back situation seems to be in flux, as both Mikael Lustig and Cristain Gamboa are set to head to the World Cup in the summer.

With both players likely to miss the start of the Champions League qualifying process, Ralston has the opportunity to become the Hoops’ right-back, at the start of the season at least.

Of course, if Brendan Rodgers goes out and signs another right-back it puts a whole different complexion on things, and Ralston might want another loan move.

In the short-term though, Ralson has the chance of a sustained run in the first-team, but only time will tell if he is able to take it.
