Gabriel Jesus: Pundit in ‘no doubt’ about Arsenal transfer
Noel Whelan has tipped Arsenal target Gabriel Jesus to score “20 goals a season” if the Gunners can play to his strengths.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 25-year-old has “got to become more consistent” if he is to move to the London giants.
According to The Athletic (22 April), Arsenal are exploring the possibility of signing Jesus in the summer window – with the Brazil international thought to be open to the idea.
The report claims former Man City coach Mikel Arteta is a big fan of the forward, whose contract is set to expire in June 2023.
Jesus netted four goals as the Citizens ran out 5-1 winners against Watford on Saturday (23 April), taking his tally for the season to 11.
Whelan claimed the 54-cap Brazil star would “complement any side”.
“He’s a good player, there’s no doubt about that,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“You don’t end up at Man City if you’re not talented. We saw that at the weekend, with the four goals he managed to get.
“He’s always had that capability, but he’s just never really scored enough to take his chance in a Man City shirt and hold that place down.
“He would complement any side. He can play anywhere across that front three for Arsenal, and if you get him into the right areas – he will score goals.

“He’s got to become more consistent. If he’s going to hold down that number nine role at Arsenal – he’s got to score 20 goals a season.
“They’ve got to play to his strengths in order to get that kind of return from him.”
