Garth Crooks: Tottenham fans must be loving this about Arsenal
By Amir Mir
Garth Crooks believes Tottenham fans must be loving the drama surrounding Arsenal after they were beaten 2-1 by Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.
BBC pundit Crooks believes the Spurs faithful must be enjoying the fact that their north London rivals have just lost two games on the bounce.
Additionally, Crooks was critical of the club by asking how after losing ground on the title this week, the talk is about whether Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil will renew their contracts.
The duo were part of the team that were beaten at the Etihad at the weekend in an entertaining title clash.
Wenger’s side took the lead after five minutes, but conceded two goals after the break to capitulate to another defeat.
Former Tottenham striker Crooks provided his verdict on the Gunners current state of mind following the defeat to Pep Guardiola’s men.
“As for the Gunners, what on earth is going on at Emirates Stadium?” Crooks told the BBC Sport website. “They have just lost two major games that may cost them the title and yet what is the issue dominating the dressing room? Are Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil going to stay at the club and are Arsenal prepared to pay them £300,000 a week for the privilege?
“How can this issue be dominating the conversation when they are chasing the title? Spurs fans must be loving this.”
The defeat means the Gunners have dropped down to fourth in the table on 34 points from 17 games.
They are now nine points adrift of leaders Chelsea going into the busy festive period, but most importantly they are only one point ahead of Mauricio Pochettino’s side in the table.
Wenger will be hoping his team can bounce back from their recent defeats when they take on West Brom on Boxing Day, before hosting Crystal Palace in the new year.
In other Arsenal news, supporters on Twitter urge Alexis Sanchez to leave the club after the Gunners lose to Manchester City.
