Gary Lineker delivers verdict on Tottenham without Harry Kane after win v Southampton

By Amir Mir

Gary Lineker believes Tottenham still have “plenty of goals” in them even without their injured striker Harry Kane.

The Match of the Day presenter was speaking on his personal Twitter account during Spurs’ clash against Southampton which they won 2-1.

England international Kane is currently the club’s top scorer with 19 Premier League goals but he has been forced to watch from the stands after injuring his ankle against Millwall.

Kane lasted less than ten minutes during the 6-0 FA Cup win last Sunday with results showing that he had damaged ligaments in his right ankle.

Despite the absence of their star player, Mauricio Pochettino’s side’s recorded a much-needed three points and this is what Lineker had to say about the Champions League chasers.

“Cracking goal from Eriksen,” Lineker wrote on his personal Twitter account. “Plenty of goals in this Spurs side even without Kane.”

Pochettino opted to start versatile attacker Son Heung-Min in a forward role against the Saints with Vincent Janssen remaining on the bench.

Playmaker Christian Eriksen gave the home side the lead after 14 minutes when his low drive was enough to beat Frazer Forster in goal.

Just before the break, attacking midfielder Dele Alli was fouled in the penalty area and he duly converted his spot-kick to give his side a comfortable lead going into the break.

However, Claude Puel’s men were given small hope when James Ward-Prowse struck six minutes into the second half.

But, the north London club held on to secure three points and maintain second spot in the Premier League table and open up a nine-point gap on sixth-placed Arsenal.
