Gary Lineker delivers verdict on Tottenham display against Fulham
By Harry Sykes
Gary Lineker took to Twitter to praise Tottenham for picking a strong team in their FA Cup fifth round demolition of Fulham on Sunday.
Spurs bucked the trend of the Premier League big hitters selecting weakened line-ups against lower league sides by naming a virtual full-strength side and a strong bench for the 3-0 triumph at Craven Cottage.
The players responded by convincingly sweeping aside Championship outfit Fulham to seal their place in the quarter-finals of the cup competition.
Harry Kane scored a clinical hat-trick as Spurs delivered a performance that bodes well for their bid to overturn a 1-0 Europa League deficit against Gent in Thursday’s return leg at White Hart Lane.
BBC broadcaster and Match of the Day host Lineker claims Mauricio Pochettino immediately reaped the dividends of his FA Cup selection.
“Strong team, beats training, striker scoring again, good win, confidence restored, smiles return, ” wrote former Spurs striker Lineker on his personal Twitter account. “Or, weak team, lose, misery….no brainer.”
Spurs had arrived at Craven Cottage on the back of two defeats, including the demoralising Premier League defeat at top-four rivals Liverpool eight days ago.
Pochettino’s side are next in action on Thursday before hosting Stoke in the Premier League three days later.
