Gerrard must try and bring Dutch legend to Rangers after hanging up his boots

COMMENT

Dutch legend Dirk Kuyt brought the curtain down on a glittering playing career on Sunday with a testimonial game – and Gers manager Steven Gerrard could bring his former team-mate to Ibrox as part of his coaching staff.

Gerrard played a role in Kuyt’s testimonial at Feyenoord’s De Kuip stadium – featuring in the second-half of the game according to the Dutch giants’ website – and his relationship with Kuty means it would make sense for the Dutchman to join Gerrard in Glasgow.

Kuyt is assistant manager with Dutch minnows Quick Boys in his hometown of Katwijk and the chance of moving to the Ibrox giants could be appealing to the 37-year-old.

Gerrard is already bringing former Liverpool team-mate Gary McAllister to Ibrox, with several members of Liverpool’s Academy staff also expected to link up with the Anfield icon at Ibrox.

Although Kuyt has only just started out as a coach, his experience as a player should help him make the transition to the dugout as he looks to his future now his playing career has come to an end.

Gerrard will be eager to have people around him that are experienced winners – both as players and coaches – and Kuyt ticks that box after a glittering playing career at the highest level for club and country.
