The Scottish Sun has reported that Gerrard has also sanctioned the signing of Burnley winger Scott Arfield in the summer.
Burnley have confirmed that Rangers have been allowed to enter talks with the Canada international and it is widely expected that he will sign for the club in the coming weeks.
This may leave questions about Jamie Murphy’s role in the team, however both him and Arfield are versatile enough to swap flanks and find themselves rotated.
Gerrard’s willingness to sign the Burnley ace though is proof enough that he will want to start him over Murphy on the left.
