‘Get your head down’ – Man United insider reacts to Jobe Bellingham whispers

Man United are making plans to strengthen Ruben Amorim’s squad ahead of the January transfer window with a number of players on their radar.

Football Insider revealed on 10 September that Man United are desperate to sign a new midfielder and are assessing multiple options for the position.

Reports have now claimed Borussia Dortmund’s Jobe Bellingham is on their list of targets amid question marks about his long-term future in Germany.

The 20-year-old has made nine appearances across all competitions so far, but just three of those have come from the start, leading to growing frustrations.

United, meanwhile, have been long-term admirers of his, while Football Insider revealed in February that Crystal Palace and Tottenham scouts were tracking Bellingham.

Borussia Dortmund make Jobe Bellingham exit decision

Despite constant speculation surrounding Bellingham, with new reports claiming he is unhappy at the club, Dortmund have no intentions of letting him leave.

That is according to former Man United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the midfielder will be given time to adapt to his new club.

Having been at Dortmund for just four months, Bellingham has been urged to get his head down and work hard to make his mark on the team despite the transfer speculation.

I thought a move to Germany would have suited him,” Brown told Football Insider.

“It’s a bit of a slower pace of the game, it would give him time to develop and improve his game, because I wasn’t quite convinced he was ready for a top move.

“That’s why things haven’t quite worked out for him at Dortmund, because it was a big step up.

“But he needs to be patient and keep developing his game until he can be a regular there, and I’m sure they’ll be willing to give him that time.

“I’d be surprised if they were willing to let him go so soon after signing him, because they signed him for his potential not what he is at the moment.

“It was a better move for him than somewhere like Man United or Tottenham at the time.

“Now there’s been a bit of talk that Man United could look to bring him back to England, but like I say, it would be a surprise if that happened.

“I’m sure he is somebody on their radar because that interest has been there before, but he would be much better served staying and getting his head down in Germany.

“I think at the moment, that’s the most likely outcome for him.”

United are not believed to be the only English club interested in handing Bellingham an escape route, however, with many of his long-term admirers now placed on alert.

Ruben Amorim makes Man United transfer plan

Despite being tipped to miss out on a deal for Bellingham, United are assessing a number of other options to strengthen in midfield.

Brown told Football Insider on 14 October that Elliot Anderson is Man United’s top target, while they are also keeping tabs on Brighton star Carlos Baleba.

Anderson is seen as the “perfect” midfielder for Amorim, and fits the profile they want to bring in to play alongside Bruno Fernandes in the middle.

Football Insider revealed on 12 September that Nottingham Forest do not want to lose Anderson and will make efforts to keep him at the City Ground.

However, that has done little to deter the interest from Amorim’s side, who have now set their sights on the England international as their top midfield target.
